Season of the Witch (2010)
This artwork served as a holiday card that I gave to my girlfriend Whitney for Halloween 2010. The drawing features Whitney rescuing me from being hanged by an angry Salem mob. The illustration began as a hand-drawn sketch that was then scanned and vectored in Adobe Illustrator. Shadows and highlights were added in Adobe Photoshop CS3 using a Wacom tablet.
Utilizing techniques explored in several previous artworks, I once again used Adobe AfterEffects' Trapcode Particular plug-in to populate the scene with thousands of tiny illustrated leaves. By drawing only about ten different leaves and using AfterEffects to duplicate, rotate, and resize the leaf particles, I am quickly able to create an image with immense detail in a very brief span of time.
While this project recycles processes from the Thanksgiving 2008 image, the angle and fish-eye lens perspective echoes the Christmas 2007 illustration, in which Whitney and I hitch a ride on Santa's flying sleigh by clinging to his reindeer.
